In partnership with #WaterMirror, NTU OIP organized the #2026 Fukuoka Innovation and Entrepreneurship Mission, bringing together 12 interdisciplinary students from the NTU System for an immersive learning experience in Japan. Centered in #FukuokaCity, recognized as one of Japan's leading startup and innovation hubs, the program offered students firsthand exposure to the city's vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Through visits to universities, companies, government agencies, and innovation organizations, students engaged directly with industry leaders and professionals, gaining valuable insights into how Fukuoka leverages digital innovation, cultural creativity, and cross-sector collaboration to drive sustainable urban development. More than just a study tour, the mission encouraged students to broaden their global perspectives while exploring new approaches to innovation and entrepreneurship.

The highlights of the itinerary centered on the close synergy between content industries and local transformation. By visiting the renowned gaming company #CyberConnect2 and the #FukuokaGameIndustryPromotionAgency, students gained insights into the competitive advantages of the local gaming sector and decoded how industry-academia-government collaboration enhances industrial value and professional talent cultivation. Led by professional organizations, students also stepped into #FukuokaGrowthNext (FGN), a startup incubator repurposed from an abandoned elementary school. They observed how Fukuoka City builds a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem through public asset revitalization and spatial reimagining, transforming a former educational space into a hub for co-working and international talent exchange. Furthermore, they visited the specialized educational institution #HumanAcademy to experience the training grounds for Japanese anime talent firsthand.

In addition to visiting local enterprises and institutions, the students paid a special visit #KyushuUniversity, one of NTU’s partner universities. Guided by 15 Kyushu University QMate campus ambassadors and 20 international students, they engaged in insightful campus tours, cultural exchanges and interactive icebreaker games. This experience allowed our students to explore a different campus environment, while the series of activities helped everyone quickly bond and share their diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives. Through these relaxed interactions, the students truly experienced the joy and warmth of cross-cultural communication.
While experiencing innovation in the entertainment industry, this mission inspired participants to find innovative sparks amid digital technology, character economies, and urban planning. It not only allowed students to feel the vibrant energy of Fukuoka as a special startup zone but also enabled them to bring home a valuable international perspective that seamlessly integrates anime, gaming, digital technology, and urban culture through cross-disciplinary exploration.
