臺大國際處攜手引水人計畫夥伴 Local Hope – Guatemala's Xela AID Partnerships for Self Reliance，並感謝台北市明德扶輪社提供學生獎學金支持，共同舉辦「NTU 2026瓜地馬拉尋跡馬雅與部落共生見習團」，帶領11位臺大系統跨領域同學深入瓜地馬拉山區，展開一場融合人道關懷、文化傳承與社區賦權的深度學習之旅。
在 Local Hope 的安排下，同學們深入 San Martín Chiquito 社區，了解組織如何透過教育、醫療及社區發展支持在地居民。行程中，同學們參與義診服務、物資發放及特殊兒童陪伴活動，並認識蒙特梭利教育在偏鄉的實踐模式，親身體會社區共生與永續發展的理念。
除了社區服務，團隊亦深入認識馬雅文化與部落生活。同學們學習馬梅族（Mam）傳統織布文化，了解圖騰紋樣所承載的歷史與宇宙觀，參與馬雅傳統儀式，並走進當地家庭學習製作玉米餅，從日常生活中感受原住民族文化的韌性與世代傳承。
此外，團隊走訪波波爾烏美術館、世界文化遺產安提瓜，以及阿蒂特蘭湖等重要文化據點，並參訪當地咖啡莊園與傳統紡織產業，了解自然資源如何結合文化特色，發展具地方特色的產業模式。參訪期間，團隊亦獲中華民國駐瓜地馬拉大使館接待，從外交實務角度認識臺灣與友邦的合作成果及國際交流。
透過此次見習，同學們不僅深入理解瓜地馬拉如何結合教育、醫療、文化保存與社區發展推動在地賦權，也從馬雅文明與部落生活中，看見永續發展與文化傳承相互交織的價值，帶回兼具國際視野與人文關懷的寶貴學習經驗。

NTU Office of International Affairs (OIA), in collaboration with our Overseas Internship Program partner Local Hope – Guatemala's Xela AID Partnerships for Self Reliance and with scholarship support from the Rotary Club of Taipei Minde, hosted the 2026 NTU Guatemala: Maya Heritage & Community Learning, leading 11 interdisciplinary students from the NTU System to Guatemala for an immersive learning experience centered on humanitarian engagement, cultural heritage, and community empowerment.
Under the guidance of Local Hope, students visited the organization's community center in San Martín Chiquito to learn how education, healthcare, and community development initiatives support local residents. Participants took part in medical outreach, food distribution, and activities with children with special needs, while also gaining insights into the local implementation of Montessori education and the role of grassroots organizations in sustainable community development.
The program also introduced students to the traditions of the Mam people through weaving culture, Mayan ceremonies, and homestay experiences, including learning to make traditional corn tortillas. These firsthand interactions offered valuable perspectives on indigenous culture, community resilience, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
Beyond the community, students visited the Popol Vuh Museum, the UNESCO World Heritage city of Antigua, and Lake Atitlán, while exploring local coffee plantations and traditional textile industries to understand how cultural heritage and natural resources contribute to regional development. The delegation was also welcomed by the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Guatemala, where students gained a deeper understanding of Taiwan's cooperation with its diplomatic ally.

Through this study tour, students witnessed how Guatemala promotes community empowerment by integrating education, healthcare, cultural preservation, and local development. The experience broadened their international perspectives while highlighting the importance of humanitarian values, indigenous knowledge, and sustainable development in creating resilient communities.
