NTU OIA visited the border between Türkiye and Syria, exploring overseas internship opportunities for NTU students
Heading to the city near the border between Türkiye and Syria —— Reyhanli, Mr. Johnny Wu, the Head of Global Relations, and Mr. Kai Hung, the Manager of Global Relations, visited the Taiwan-Reyhanli Center for World Citizens to investigate the work and living environment there and exchange views with the staff. They also shared with the center the details of the first edition of the NTU Overseas Internship Program, looking forward to send the first batch of our students to intern at the center next summer.
Funded by Taiwanese government and provided with the land and partial funds by the Turkish city of Reyhanli, the Taiwan Center is managed by the CEO, Dr. Chiu Chen-Yu with 20 more members. The center, which was built as a humanitarian construction for improving the socio-cultural integration and inclusion between Syrians and Turkish locals, not only serves as a shelter for Syrian refugees to live safe lives and even develop their careers, but also builds bridges among Türkiye, Syria, and Taiwan.
The spaces in the center are operated as offices, classrooms, art studios and exhibition venues, youth football fields, etc. Not only teaching the kids of the refugees Arabic, Turkish, English, and calligraphy courses, etc., the center also established a center and factory of creativity combined with the local handicraft industry to bring economic benefits to Syrians and Turkish locals. Moreover, the United Nations Migration Agency (International Organization for Migration, IOM) team will also be stationed at the center to conduct some projects of refugee issues.
