The main businesses are renewable energy in Japan and overseas, electric power retail, energy-saving services, sale of solar panel and electricity storage systems, recycling and waste management, and resource recycling.
- In the domestic energy market, we aim to provide high-value-added services as a onestop service provider of renewable energy by combining multiple services including electric power retail and energy saving as well as renewable energy, and by building a value chain that covers the development, operation, and sale of power sources.
- Internationally, we will use our strategic platform to expand and diversify our portfolio. This will include expansion into regions we do not yet serve, such as Europe and North America; diversification into power storage stations, offshore wind power generation, and other power sources; and development of next-generation energy. We will also sell certain assets as part of our capital recycling program.
- In the domestic environmental market, our strengths include a broad array of recycling items, the establishment of networks, and our high-added-value processing capabilities. We will step up the further expansion of our value chain toward a society that reuses and recycles.
There are three departments you can experience in this internship related to energy and environmental business in Japan.
1. Business Development Department
- Strategic planning, business development, business investment, business management and electric power sale for all renewable energy businesses in Japan.
- All renewable energy businesses include solar, geothermal, wind and other types of energy.
2. Electric Power Business Department
- Developing power plants and procuring electricity for electricity retail business.
- Management of power plants, supply and demand management including forecasting of electric energy for electricity retail business.
- Development and operation of energy storage plant business
- Sales of energy-saving services
3. Eco Services Business Promotion Department
- Promoting initiatives towards the realization of a circular economy

*Electricity procurement market is similar to the stock market. The electricity market has players who want to sell electricity and players who want to buy electricity, just like trading stocks. The price of electricity will change daily depending various factors such as future weather and temperature. Analyzing data to predict future supply and demand is very important.

ERM Department of ORIX Corporation is composed of 3 teams with 24 risk management professionals: Portfolio Risk [PR], Market and Liquidity Risk [MLR], and Operational Risk [OR]. Our mission is to capture, assess, and manage risks in a group-wide, systematic/effective and efficient way from neutral and independent perspectives, in cooperation with the specialized corporate divisions by risk type as well as relevant business segments/units. By visualizing the various risk data and reporting timely to the ORIX top management including developing and maintaining the comprehensive Dashboard, we are helping support them to make reasonable management decisions.

- To capture, calculate, evaluate financial/ credit risk data to provide Dashboard for preventing/mitigating losses arising from deterioration in performance/bankruptcy of creditors, investees, facilities operations
- To monitor and evaluate the simulated loss and risk indicators by business segment/unit

- To build methodology for risk assessment and monitor KRIs to provide Dashboard for preventing/mitigating losses arising from market fluctuations in interest rates and foreign exchange rates and shortfall arising from deterioration of financial and/or market condition

ORIX launched its real estate business in 1986 and subsequently expanded into a diverse portfolio of business, including real estate development and rental, asset management, and facility operation. This internship focuses on real estate asset management business. ORIX entered the asset management business*1 to enhance the added value of real estate with a wide network and high level of expertise.
ORIX Asset Management Corporation
ORIX Asset Management is an asset management company of ORIX J-REIT*2, which is classified as a REIT. It aims at steady growth of the investor’s value by the management of the diversified REIT*3 utilizing extensive financial and real estate knowledge and expertise accumulated by ORIX Group over the years.
ORIX JREIT Inc. (a diversified REIT managed by ORIX Asset Management Corporation)
ORIX JREIT was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2002 as the first diversified REIT in Japan. ORIX JREIT is promoting various measures to improve the equality of the overall assets under its management, attract tenants, and enhance financial stability, with the aim of realizing the steady growth of value for investors.
*1. Asset management business: a business that manages and operates a variety of investment assets, including financial assets and real estate on behalf of companies. As for the real estate, it examines strategies for improving added value, such as property renovation and attracting tenants, and develops financial plants.
*2. J-REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust in Japan): an investment trust that managers the real estate acquired based on funds entrusted by investors, and that distributes to the investors the profits obtained from the rent income.
*3. Diversified REIT: a REIT that invests in multiple types of properties, such as offices, commercial facilities, residential properties, logistics facilities, and hotels.

- Visit real estate properties owned by ORIX Group (e.g., hotels, condominiums, office buildings, logistics facilities, aquarium, etc.) to understand the flow of asset management and operating businesses
- Experience investor relation activities, including Q&A sessions with investors, analyzing of investors and other REIT companies
- Experience fund raise activities by participate in meetings with financial institutions
- Participate in periodic/ad-hoc meetings with various stakeholders both in and outside of ORIX Group
- Experience in proposing improvements that lead to an increase in OJR's investment value

Global Transportation Services Headquarters consists of aircraft investment and management, and ship-related finance and investment. In the aircraft-related business, we are focusing on a wide range of profit opportunities, including operating leases of owned aircraft, sale of aircraft to investors, and asset management services for aircraft owned by domestic and overseas investors.
We aim for medium- and long-term growth by further enhancing our presence in the global aircraft-leasing market including through mutually complementary relationships with Avolon Holdings Limited. In the ship-related business, we flexibly replace assets (ships) while closely monitoring the market environment and aim to achieve goals such as an increase of commission income by arranging investment in ships for domestic corporate investors. In the future, we aim to expand our business by collaborating with excellent partners based on our expertise in finance and investment.
