Welcome to the UChicago–Taiwan student summer research program in the Sciences (UCTS)! We initiated this program in 2023 to enhance research collaboration between principal investigators at the University of Chicago and in Taiwan by exchanging visiting students. In the year 2025, our focused areas of research will include Basic Sciences, Engineering, and Biomedical research.

  • Program Schedule:
    1. The application deadline for the 2024-2025 program is 1/31/2025
    2. An announcement of the 2025 UCTS fellows will be sent out on February 28.
    3. The Ideal duration of a visit for the 2025 summer quarter is 6/16-9/28/2025. (The actual duration of the internship should be discussed and agreed upon with the PI.)
  • Available Slots: Up to 10 students
  • Funding: Students will be enrolled in the Non-Degree Visiting Student (NDVS) program. The estimated program cost, including tuition, fees, and housing, is approximately USD 6,500. NTU provides a subsidy of TWD 50,000, disbursed upon students' return to Taiwan. The remaining expenses will be the responsibility of each student.
    【Note】 UChicago on-campus housing is available until August 23, 2025. If your program extends beyond this date, you must arrange alternative housing.
  • Eligibility: Open to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in the fields of Sciences, Engineering, and biomedical Sciences
  • Application Materials:
    1. CV
    2. Transcript (including the records of Fall 2024)
    3. Statement of your research experience and research plan at the Univ. of Chicago (< 1 page)
    4. Recommendation letter from your advisor or the department chair of NTU
    5. Invitation letter from the faculty member at the University. of Chicago
  • Application Procedure: Reach out directly to a UChicago PI to confirm their willingness to supervise you for the program. Once you receive confirmation from the PI, submit your online application on the program’s website by the deadline. Prepare the following documents and compile them into a single PDF file (file name: StudentID_Name): English CV, transcript, Statement of research experience and research plan, Recommendation letter from an NTU faculty member, and Invitation letter from the UChicago PI. Email the compiled PDF to Jeffrey Huang at jeffreyhuang@ntu.edu.tw (Office of International Affairs, +886-2-3366-2007 ext. 228) by February 1, 2025.
