Internship I

Welcome to the UChicago–Taiwan student summer research program in the Sciences (UCTS)! We initiated this program in 2023 to enhance research collaboration between principal investigators at the University of Chicago and in Taiwan by exchanging visiting students. In the year 2025, our focused areas of research will include Basic Sciences, Engineering, and Biomedical research.

• Program Schedule:
  1. The application deadline for the 2024-2025 program is 1/31/2025
  2. An announcement of the 2025 UCTS fellows will be sent out on February 28.
  3. The Ideal duration of a visit for the 2025 summer quarter is 6/16-9/28/2025. (The actual duration of the internship should be discussed and agreed upon with the PI.)
• Available Slots: Up to 10 students
• Funding: Students will be enrolled in the Non-Degree Visiting Student (NDVS) program. The estimated program cost, including tuition, fees, and housing, is approximately USD 6,500. NTU provides a subsidy of TWD 50,000, disbursed upon students' return to Taiwan. The remaining expenses will be the responsibility of each student.
  【Note】 UChicago on-campus housing is available until August 23, 2025. If your program extends beyond this date, you must arrange alternative housing.

• Eligibility: Open to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in the fields of Sciences, Engineering, and biomedical Sciences

  2. Transcript (including the records of Fall 2024)
  3. Statement of your research experience and research plan at the Univ. of Chicago (< 1 page)
  4. Recommendation letter from your advisor or the department chair of NTU
  5. Invitation letter from the faculty member at the University. of Chicago

• Application Procedure: Reach out directly to a UChicago PI to confirm their willingness to supervise you for the program. Once you receive confirmation from the PI, submit your online application on the program’s website by the deadline. Prepare the following documents and compile them into a single PDF file (file name: StudentID_Name): English CV, transcript, Statement of research experience and research plan, Recommendation letter from an NTU faculty member, and Invitation letter from the UChicago PI. Internship II

The Student Summer Research Fellowship Program (“Program”) is administered under the Computer Science department at University of Chicago. We invite a small group of highly motivated undergraduate students from our partner Universities to join our faculty-led research groups at University of Chicago for 8 weeks during the summer. During the 8-week program period, each student will spend their work time with his/her faculty host and his/her research team to conduct exciting research. Besides, the program will organize team building activities, panels, etc. that will expose students to the larger UChicago academic community and the city of Chicago

• Funding

Total program cost: Approximately $5,400 (includes tuition, housing, meals, student fees, and program fees).

1. The University of Chicago provides a subsidy of $1,700 per student.
2. NTU provides a subsidy of NT$50,000, which will be disbursed after the program is completed and the student has returned to Taiwan. Any remaining expenses will be the responsibility of the student.

Note: The above costs do not include insurance, which is a self-funded expense. Admitted students may arrange insurance through the University of Chicago or purchase their own insurance which satisfies the University of Chicago requirements.

• Eligibility: Undergraduate students with a background in computer science or related fields.

4. English Requirement (TOEFL/IELTS report, or UChicago AEPA) **Based on the policy for NDVS at the University, to meet the English requirement, we recognize three types of test: TOEFL iBT Speaking (18 or better), IELTS (Speaking score of 6.0 or better), or AEPA (“Basic” level or above).

After completing the online application for the program, please compile all application materials into a single PDF file, including the Candidate Statement, CV/Resume, Undergraduate Transcript, and English proficiency test scores (format: student ID + name). 由芝加哥大學Computer Science Department主辦的Summer Research Fellowship Program以招募來自海外合作的姊妹校積極且優秀的大學生為目標，加入芝加哥大學的教授主導研究小組，參與為期8週的研究體驗，在暑期間（7月至8月）於芝加哥大學進行研究，在這8週的計畫期間，每位學生將與其指導教授及研究團隊合作，投入到激動人心的研究中。此外，計畫還將安排團隊建設活動、座談會等，讓學生接觸到芝加哥大學更廣泛的學術領域及芝加哥這座城市的魅力。
