PERSONAL BIO

Henry Hung is a forest scientist at the University of Oxford, where he also serves as a Lecturer in Biology at St Hilda’s College and as a Helen Zhang Research Associate in Biology at Jesus College. His research focuses on the adaptation and genomics of forest trees, with work spanning tropical forests in Southeast Asia and temperate forests across Europe and North America.

He is Co-Chair of the Ecological Genetics Group and a member of the Events Committee at the British Ecological Society. Henry was named a National Geographic Explorer in 2022, received the Irene Manton Prize in 2024 for his research on critically endangered rosewoods, and was awarded a Croucher Fellowship in 2024 for his work on ancient oaks. In the same year, he was recognised as a MoCC Scholar by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change. He was listed on Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe in 2025.

Henry also advises ZYTCA Limited at Oxford, supporting its work to advance One Health diagnostics through fast, reliable, and accurate point-of-care testing. His expertise in molecular biology and bioinformatics contributes directly to the company’s research and development.

He completed his bachelor’s degree at United College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong as a Swire Scholar, and earned his doctorate at University College, University of Oxford as a Radcliffe Scholar.
