Karolina Macúchová is a Czech engineer and lecturer specializing in advanced laser-mechanical design and optical hardware for high-precision applications. Her work spans thin-disk head development, complex vacuum system design, and robust mechanical integration, where she combines rigorous analytical thinking with practical, hands-on engineering. In her teaching, she guides engineers through complex design decisions with clarity, responsibility, and a strong emphasis on real-world constraints. Within academia, she leads space-related research projects such as Freya and SATen, preparing ECSS-aligned documentation, conducting risk assessments, and supporting optical hardware development for stratospheric and orbital measurement systems. Karolina is known for her structured approach, transparent communication, and her ability to make complex technical concepts accessible without oversimplifying them. Her communication blends precision with warmth, often shaped by dry, dark humor rooted in laboratory reality.
【Engineering and Technical Support Department】
The Engineering and Technical Support (ETS) Department at the HiLASE Centre provides comprehensive mechanical, optomechanical, electronic, and control-system development for the Centre’s high-power laser technologies. ETS covers the full engineering workflow — from initial concept and design through fabrication, assembly, commissioning, testing, and certification — and serves as the core technical backbone for scientific teams. The construction group designs everything from micrometre-precision components to large-scale vacuum and laser-beam distribution systems, including optomechanical mounts, housings, safety enclosures, and custom experimental setups. The electronics team develops and modifies laboratory instruments, prototypes analog and digital systems, and maintains specialized electronics for laser systems. The control-systems team designs automated industrial control solutions for advanced laser technologies, ensuring reliability, safety, and user-friendly operation. Collectively, ETS enables HiLASE’s research by delivering robust engineering solutions, maintaining key laboratory infrastructure, and tackling complex technical challenges across optics, mechanics, electronics, and automation.
The Optical Engineering & Technical Support Internship offers [hands-on / hands on] experience in [laser-mechanical / laser mechanics] design, optical hardware preparation, and structured engineering workflows within ongoing academic research projects. The intern will assist with assembling and maintaining optical setups, performing basic alignment and diagnostic tasks, preparing technical documentation, and supporting [ECSS-aligned / ECSS aligned] materials. Responsibilities include organizing laboratory experiments, helping with design analysis, conducting literature searches, preparing diagrams and measurement summaries, and assisting with component [comparisons / comparison]. The role is ideal for a student in [engineering or / engineering, or] a related field who is curious, careful, and willing to learn. The internship provides practical exposure to real optical systems, insight into academic space technology development, and guidance in structured [problem-solving / problem solving] and technical communication.
