Dr. Ming-shan Tsai is the co-founder and CSO of ZYTCA Animal Health, leading the company’s R&D team. She obtained her Ph.D. in Zoology at University of Oxford with full scholarship and specialized in animal disease epidemiology and molecular diagnosis. Dr. Tsai has five years of working experiences in academia and industry and is passionate about applying advanced genetic technologies in solving challenges in the field of animal health.
ZYTCA R&D team is dedicated to tackling diagnostic challenges through innovation. Our responsibilities encompass a wide range of activities, including in-depth research into animal diseases with market interest, the design of diagnostic assays, rigorous assay validation experiments, clinical validation trials, assay optimization endeavors, thorough regulatory compliance research, and governmental grant proposal writing and management. We maintain ongoing dialogue with our esteemed scientific advisors, who are renowned professors and scientists affiliated with the University of Oxford. This collaboration allows us to continually evolve our techniques and enhance the performance of our existing products. Additionally, we foster a close partnership with our manufacturing team in China to ensure the quality of prototypes and final products remains impeccable.
Early detection plays a pivotal role in the effective mitigation of disease outbreaks. Unfortunately, traditional diagnostics prevent formidable barriers such as the reliance on a dedicated laboratory setting, costly equipment, and highly trained lab professionals. These constraints elevate the expenses and turnaround time, causing delays in administering appropriate treatments and preventive measures.
At ZYTCA, our mission is to revolutionise disease molecular diagnostics by offering a swifter, dependable, cost-effective, and user-friendly detection platforms. Our goal is to empower front-line practitioners for disease surveillance and control in One Health. While ZYTCA is founded with the roots in animal health, we are exciting to launch our portfolio for plants, whose ability to produce food are pivotal in sustaining all organisms in the world.
We are currently seeking a passionate and motivated intern who possesses a deep commitment to reinventing the point-of-care diagnostic assays for both animal and plant diseases. This individual will collaborate closely with our dynamic R&D department and beyond, playing a role in the entire product development cycle. By the end of the internship, the individual will develop a novel diagnostic assay targeting one or multiple high-profile diseases and/or a sample pre-treatment assay designed to enrich and purify nucleic acid targets from various input sample types. The ideal candidate should possess foundational skills in molecular biology lab techniques, adhere to strong lab practices, demonstrate independence in experimental design and trouble-shooting, and be a proactive problem-solver.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
- Conducting research to gain insights into market demands, disease epidemiology, and the underlying mechanisms of molecular diagnostics
- Spearheading the conceptualisation of assay designs and the formulation of validation plans
- Carrying out assay validation experiments and maintaining meticulous records and data
- Analysing experimental data to evaluate the performance of diagnostics assays and identifying areas for improvement
- Preparing technical reports and delivering presentations to communicate findings effectively
- Maintaining open and effective communications with supervisors and colleagues
- Assisting in the upkeep and organisation of laboratory environment
