My current project at Kew is related to natural history, with a main focus on Taiwanese specimens held at Kew. We are trying to use the existing specimen records to explore several questions: What do these specimens contain? How did these specimens come to be at Kew? And is there anything particularly significant about them? However, after spending some time reading the relevant literature, we gradually became more familiar with the topic and slowly established the main direction of our project. The project itself was also different from the kind of research I am used to. The content and way of thinking were more focused on history and the relationships between different collectors, rather than on the biological questions that I normally work with. This was not easy for me to understand at first, and I often found it difficult to step outside.
