The Caltech SURF program served as a major milestone in my undergraduate journey. Transitioning from abstract spin models and formal Hamiltonians to realistic first-principles calculations gave me a profound appreciation for numerical precision, k-point convergence, and the practical challenges of ab initio physics. Seeing microscopic transport equations connect directly to predictive material observables was intellectually fulfilling.
