I had the expectation that this traineeship was to simply learn about the poaching problem, conservation challenges, and the forensic aspects of these issues. I began thinking beyond the biological aspect. I started thinking about the people who were affected by wildlife crimes. I got to experience what it feels like to search a crime scene and look for evidence. But the most important thing is realizing that working in CSI can really assist in solving cases, whether the victims are humans or animals, and this realization has brought me to seriously consider working in related fields for future careers. We were given a scenario in which we had to testify about what we saw. I believe there is a deeper message of trusting your own instinct. In daily life or during research, I would try to look deeper into the core of the problem not just solving it. This trip might really be life-changing.
