A 7-day seemingly long yet fleeting journey was like eating sugarcane, a process of getting progressively sweeter. Hawaii had always been a dream destination for me until it became a reality. I wanted to connect with the island community and explore how they ‘‘embrace’’ the ocean as a gift. The mountains dominate the interior of the island, whose geography is quite similar to Taiwan’s. Hawaiians leverage these environmental advantages, developing sports that require bravery and show how deeply they love their island. Finally, thank you to Trinity, Brandon, Jerane, and everyone I met in Hawaii. You have truly enriched my life. The surreal experience afterwards turned out to be a once-in-a-lifetime memory, leaving me with a profound appreciation for maritime heritage, cultural preservation, and the enduring resilience of Pacific island communities.
