I learned that they have been deeply involved in the San Martín Chiquito community for a long time, assisting locals in improving their lives through education, healthcare, and community development, rather than just providing one-time material aid. This made me realize that being a true international volunteer is not just about offering help, but more importantly, it is about growing alongside the community and building the residents' capacity for self-sustained development. Their philosophy made me understand that true sustainability means empowering residents with the ability to change their own lives, rather than relying on outside help forever. These individuals made me profoundly realize that service doesn't have to be grand or dramatic; it is about quietly doing the little things well every single day. The greatest takeaway from this trip was not just getting to know Guatemala, but rediscovering myself.
