Although I am still doing my internship as I write this, the experience has been better than I expected. I thought, as a sophomore, I wouldn’t do much advanced lab work, but my mentor and supervisors expect a lot from me and give me space to share ideas. Even though my supervisor resigned, I pushed myself to be more active and ask for help. I’m now working on a project related to Chlamydomonas, which is my main interest. I learned a lot about both wet lab work and bioinformatics. At first, wet lab work was a bit boring, but I grew to like the bioinformatics part more. I also got to be part of lab meetings, which helped me improve my confidence. Living and working in an international lab is a dream come true. I can communicate without language barriers and everyone is very welcoming. I’m really grateful for this opportunity and the people I’ve met.
