I feel that this traineeship taught me about how important it is to build good relationships with locals when trying to get a project running. It taught me that learning about the culture you want to get into business with is paramount. Culture-shock is a real thing and something you have to get over quickly to successfully integrate into a new place. Learning the people’s values and needs are just a small part of what can help you function in a business capacity in a different country or city. I got to know more about this when speaking with the Taiwanese elder that had been living in Japan for some years now. He explained that while Taiwan and Japan have similar problems, their reaction to them are quite different. Each country have their own regulations and laws, these dictate how citizens act when facing these issues. It’s important to learn these differences and think carefully about how to move forward.
