This internship is located in Thailand, for Mae Fah Luange Foundation under Royal Patronage, DoiTung to be exact. For this 2026 summer internship, I fell into the category for the foundation’s environmental team, and have gotten the opportunity to apply real engineering knowledge to a sustainability-related project. My project focuses on developing a biomass pellet from agricultural waste to decrease air pollution, or PM 2.5 in the northern region of Thailand. The main objective is to find the best formula from waste materials available in the region (leaves, coffee cherry, coffee shell, corn cob, rice straw). What I expected to learn at the beginning is to first research the qualities of these ingredients, then try to derive example formulas so that I can test the output pellet. The factors that determine the best pellet will be its ignition time, burning duration, pellet strength, and amount of ash.
