Bachelor in Political Science
Before joining this program, I felt a certain amount of unease about navigating an unfamiliar environment and a foreign culture on my own. This overseas experience genuinely changed how I see my own capabilities and gave me much greater confidence. During our free time, I chose to explore the area around Antigua and downtown Panajachel on my own—figuring out transportation, planning routes, and actively communicating with shopkeepers. Through this process, I developed stronger initiative and independent thinking, and I became braver about trying new things. Improving my Spanish was another major gain. Interacting with local Guatemalans and members of Maya communities required me to use Spanish extensively, especially when ordering food, shopping, or asking for information. Through these real, practical situations, my spoken Spanish became noticeably more fluent and natural, and I grew more confident speaking up and handling unexpected situations.
