International Master/Doctoral Degree Program in Climate Change and Sustainable Development
The reason I chose this internship was because I have always been interested in international development, especially pertaining to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. What stayed with me most was visiting the Marshall Islands permanent mission to the UN. A country with very limited population and resources was able to win a seat on the Human Rights Council, sitting and competing alongside far more powerful states like Saudi Arabia and Korea. I finish this internship still believing there is a great deal the UN cannot do. But I no longer measure it solely by whether it can solve problems. Its significance is that it preserves a place for civil society to speak, and a seat for small countries, and both of those are things Taiwan is still fighting for.
