Throughout this journey, I found my perception throughout the trip constantly moving between the unfamiliar and the familiar. My senses seemed to be heightened, and along the way, I kept noticing small connections between Hawaiʻi, Taiwan, and my own experiences. Still, every time I encountered something that felt familiar, it seemed to open the door to something new. New experiences, conversations, and perspectives gradually grew from these points of connection. Looking back, I think I began this journey wanting to find an answer: What connects Hawaiʻi and Taiwan? Where do I fit within these connections? But perhaps the journey taught me that I do not always need a clear answer. There is something meaningful about staying in that space between the familiar and the unfamiliar, allowing myself to keep exploring, questioning, and growing. Through the different connections I made, I came to understand more.
