The main part of my internship was working on the design of the old house. However, before beginning the design, we first had to understand the existing building. Therefore, I started by taking measurements on site, producing architectural drawings, and creating a model of the existing conditions. This process made me realize that renovating an old house is completely different from designing a new building from scratch. When working with an existing building, unlike designing from a blank canvas, we have to carefully observe the existing space, understand its original structure, and consider the relationship between the new design and the existing building. Every design decision has to respond to what is already there. After understanding the existing structure, I began developing the renovation design. This was my first time truly working on interior design, and I unexpectedly found the process very enjoyable.
