In this traineeship, there were many valuable concepts, knowledge, exchanges, and friendships that I am glad to have gained. Masao Yamaguchi, a Japanese anthropologist, argues that a new civilization is bound to emerge from the periphery. This concept is closely related to regional revitalization and points out the value of local development. I have seen the embodiment of such a concept in this traineeship. Every place has its own power, possibilities, and features to be discovered and developed, which ultimately encourages people to stay. In Awaji, I saw the hard work and diverse approaches used to reuse facilities like Scuola, uncover the charm of a place, and create value.
