The most substantial thing I built during this internship was an ERP-style logistics system for the department, and the idea for it came directly from watching how the work was actually done. I designed and built a web system with a MySQL backend that follows the same three-stage flow the team already uses. It begins with authentication and a permission-aware sidebar. Behind that sit master data pages for vessels, barges, jetties, shippers, and floating loading facilities, the single source of truth that eliminates the retyping. The three improvements I targeted were deliberate: centralized master data with lookup fields, standardized field names and export templates, and automated return cargo tracking. I learned that my engineering background is most valuable when it is pointed at a business problem I have taken the time to actually understand.
