This trip changed me—not in some dramatic way, but in a quiet, lasting one. I still love animals. I still care about their protection. But now I also care more about the people involved in conservation—the scientists, the rangers, the communities around reserves, and even the ones whose lives lead them to illegal actions. What I didn’t expect was to come home with a different lens for seeing the world. Conservation, I now realize, is not only about nature. It’s about systems. It’s about people. And it’s about how we choose to pay attention.
