Actually, optics was the most unfamiliar and challenging field in physics to me before I started my internship. Every time my advisor in my college suggested that I research in subjects such as optical communication and co-packaged optics, I refused instantly because I found optics as unrealizable throughout my school years. In the first week, I found an interesting topic of application of retroreflectors, which is inspired by my colleague Yannis’ project. Throughout the week, I dived deep into the field of polarization optics, overcoming the most challenged and feared physics for me by reading a bunch of papers and online courses. During the research, I unprecedentedly feel there’s no “useless” knowledge in my school years. My effort in communication engineering helped me understand data processing techniques in space scenarios very easily. I finally found an interest in optics on this unexpected journey.
