Looking back, I feel very lucky that UCTS gave me the opportunity to spend two months actually experiencing what it’s like to do research and live in the U.S. The research itself was obviously important, but I think another equally important part of the experience was having enough time to seriously imagine, for the first time: If I actually come to the U.S. for a PhD someday, or even live here for many years, what kind of research environment do I want? What kind of city do I want to live in? And what kind of researcher do I want to become? Two months obviously isn’t enough to answer all of those questions. But at least now, I know a little more than I did before I came.
