Wildlife crime has exploded on a scale never seen before and is pushing many animals towards extinction. It is one of the biggest forms of organised crime, next to drugs, human trafficking and weapon smuggling. The Wildlife Forensic Academy is the first of its kind and is based one hour drive from Cape Town in South Africa. The Academy is a 1000 m2 experience lab consisting of several wildlife crime scenes, a laboratory, and a courtroom, to provide training to those that wish to contribute to animal welfare and the global conservation of animal species.
Our courses provide students with an overview of forensic evidence collection with regards to wildlife crime, presenting evidence in court as well as assisting students to gain an understanding of wildlife management, ecology and the context of conservation and animal management in South Africa. Upon completing one of our courses, students will be placed as an intern with one of our partner organizations in South Africa. Our internship positions range from organizations that counteillegal wildlife trade, law enforcement agencies, game reserves, laboratory research, data recording and analysis, marine conservation and animal rehabilitation. Our internships are aimed to help students to gain understanding and skills in the field of wildlife forensics, wildlife management, rehabilitation, project management and communication. We also aim to empower our interns to contribute to the field of wildlife forensics and wildlife crime prevention.
The WFA has an existing Social Media and Communication Plan to create awareness around conservation and the illegal wildlife trade. At the same time this is used to attract potential course participants as well as followers on social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin. Posts are done by means of captions with photos and reels as well as the appropriate hashtags. The WFA also has an existing website where SEO and AI need to be used as well as updates made available as courses and events development.
This internship entails assisting the WFA to create daily Social Media content in the form of posts and stories with captions, photos and video material. It also entails interns to follow the necessary communication guidelines and channels of the WFA. Furthermore, it entails updating the website and incorporating SEO and AI techniques to optimize traffic. Interns will be expected to visit various partner organizations and events of the WFA in order to create daily content.

The WFA currently has one online module available for participants to enroll for to learn more about the history and challenges of wildlife trafficking and trade. Our team is working on expanding this to a number of modules to be accessible to anyone anywhere in the world.
We are seeking an individual that can expand our online wildlife forensic courses in terms of content, interactive activities, curriculum overview and media. The intern would be expected to visit several of our partner organizations and events in South Africa to gain an understanding of the industry as well as to have background to content needed for our online courses. Courses should then be set up according to guidelines and on the necessary academic material. The candidate will need to coordinate and collate data and information to be presented in a creative and interactive way.
